The story of Tillikka began in 1912. The restaurant activities started along with the completion of the theatre building. At first, the restaurant was located on the ground floor. The upper floor had a terrace, which was open during summer. |

The ownership of the restaurant was transferred to the Alko restaurant company soon after the opening of the nearby Hämeensilta restaurant. The new proprietor opened a new dining area in the upstairs hall which had glass walls and ceiling. A simple diner was set up on the ground floor. |

The growing need for more space for the theatre resulted in the closing of the upper floor restaurant. The only restaurant left in the building was the diner downstairs. A new restaurant was opened, and it was originally going to be called Koskenkorva (meaning "by the rapids"), fitting the location of the building. However, a naming contest was held, and the winner was "Tillikka". This traditional name was known to refer to an inn and a small drink - an excellent choice! In the mid-1970s, there was discussion on building a summer terrace next to the theatre by the Tammerkoski Rapids. The plan was fiercely opposed as a travesty and cultural scandal. |

In the summer of 1981, the Kesätillikka summer terrace was opened by the rapids, and it was soon seen as complementing the theatre building beautifully. |

Due to increasing competition, Tillikka was renovated extensively. It was turned into a continental-style Brasserie Arctia. The concept of the new café/restaurant did not, however, appeal to the people of Tampere. |

The Alko restaurant company sold its Tampere hotels and restaurants to Scandic Hotels Ltd. |

In April 1999, the restaurant and Restaurant Hämeensilta on the eastern end of the bridge were bought by Talonravintolat Ltd. The legendary Tillikka returned to its original familiar surroundings. In the spring, a new Korvatillikka bar was opened in the building. Even the name of the restaurant, Teatteriravintola Tillikka (Theatre Restaurant Tillikka), pays homage to the building's glorious history. |
